Cheryl Schnell, FIELD Edventures Coordinator, is the founding teacher of Island City Academy (ICA) in Cumberland, Wisconsin, where she currently serves as the school’s director. Cheryl has 20 years of teaching experience and holds a Master’s Degree in Collaborative Educational Leadership and Change from Fielding University. Cheryl is a NASA Explorer School Teacher, coaching two teams to NASA’s National Student Symposium and flew student experiments on NASA’s Reduced Gravity Flight. ICA curriculum emphasizes inquiry-based learning integrated through sustainability themes. In 2011 and 2012, Cheryl received grants from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to assist other schools to provide this type of education. Cheryl led the pilot project of the more flexible, adaptable F.I.E.L.D. Corps coaching model in northwestern Wisconsin.
